How to extract metadata from a photo
- Choose the original image from your camera or phone.
- Review file details and readable embedded tags.
- Search for Make, Model, DateTimeOriginal, ISO or GPS.
- Copy or download your report, then clear the image when finished.
The original image is not changed. Reports may contain location or device details; review them before sharing.
What is image metadata?
Image metadata is information stored alongside the pixels in an image file. EXIF can describe camera settings and capture time. XMP and IPTC can hold descriptions, creator names and rights information.
This viewer shows tags the parser can read, not a guarantee that every embedded field has been extracted. Missing fields are not reconstructed.

Can metadata prove a photo is real?
No. Metadata can be altered or removed, and a genuine photo may contain no readable EXIF. Treat it as supporting context, not proof of authenticity, location or AI generation.

How do I view image metadata online?
Choose an image in this tool. It reads supported embedded tags in your browser. Review the results, search for a tag or download a JSON or text report.
Are my photos uploaded?
The tool processes the selected file in your browser without uploading the image or extracted tags. Shared site analytics and advertising still apply. Opening the optional map link sends coordinates to OpenStreetMap.
Why does my photo have no EXIF data?
The image may never have contained EXIF, or an editor, screenshot workflow or sharing service may have removed it. Try the original camera file. Missing metadata does not mean a photo is fake.
Can I find where a photo was taken?
Only if readable GPS coordinates are embedded. This tool cannot infer location from the scene or recover removed coordinates. GPS tags can be edited and are not proof of location.
Is file modification time the photo capture time?
No. Modification time comes from your device and may reflect copying or downloading. DateTimeOriginal is an embedded capture-time field, when present. Camera clocks may be wrong and time zones may be missing.
Which image formats are supported?
Select JPEG, PNG, TIFF, HEIC, HEIF or AVIF files up to 25 MB. Readable metadata varies by file and format. IPTC extraction is available for JPEG; EXIF and XMP are read where supported. Preview support depends on your browser.
Can this tool remove metadata or detect AI images?
No. This is a metadata viewer and report exporter. It does not edit images or determine authenticity. Metadata can be changed, removed or copied and cannot reliably prove authorship, copyright ownership or AI generation.
